Week 2 Monday and Tuesday:
A group of students from Texas A&M arrived at Antonio’s Sunday evening for two days. They are on an 18 day study tour of Brazil. The students were able to talk about their programs together for a short time but their schedules really did not cross. Cristina taught the students more Portuguese in the morning. Prof Fernando Peres began his time with the students discussing economics. There was lots of discussion. The students had lunch at Restaurante Antares as a group. For a change, an early supper was made available and the students arrived back to the hotel early. The eating schedule is quite different in Brazil and has taken some time to get use to. Some never get use to it. They eat supper very late in the evening and Americans aren’t use to going to bed directly after eating.
Tuesday was class all day. Cristina had her last day with the students and they have all the information they need to introduce themselves. Each student practiced once. When they get home you can ask them to introduce themselves with the following information: Meu name e _______, eu tenor _____ anos, eu sou de _________, eu estudo _________, eu gusto de ___,____,________. Do you know what they are saying? They will miss Cristina. The students split up for lunch. Some remained in the classroom to catch up on their journals and relax. Others who went to lunch had the opportunity to visit with several monkeys that were playing in the trees on campus near our classroom. The students were surprised with their size. One student compared them to the “squirrels on the oval” and another added “only much cuter”.
Late in the day we found out that the local newspaper wanted to do a feature article on AZP’s visit to Brazil. It is to be in the Sunday paper. A group picture was taken as well as four students were selected to be interviewed for 20 minutes each. The students represented AZP and OSU well. They should be very proud of themselves. I am sure it will be a quiet evening tonight as we need to be on the bus in the morning by 5:45 am.
